Sowing the Seeds
There are many children in our community who suffer from a range of illnesses classed as ‘life limiting.’
Life limiting illnesses vary in degree but most have principally the same effect on the children for whom we have grouped – that they suffer each and every day of their lives, miss out on parties and special events, go through harsh and painful treatments, have lengthy time off school, lack quality time with families and friends…
These children may suffer each and every day of their lives for the rest of their lives, for some, they face the prospect of much shortened lives. Naturally, it goes without saying that children with life threatening illnesses fall within our remit!
So, who are we? We are a group of people who want to make a difference. We’re prepared to give our time and efforts to do this, as volunteers. We want to remain regional, and spend money regionally, we think that’s important. We believe local people want to see where their hard-earned money goes.
We want to work with local hospitals, hospices, outreach services, nurses. We want to help them to make a difference to their children too, because sometimes they have to put them through some pretty awful things. Giving good news to a child is often a rarity.
We are NOT looking to be the next ‘big’ charity, but outside of genuine costs we will spend the money on our children. Not wages. To do that, we will be building up, slowly some reliable volunteers who can share ‘job’ roles. A community cause for, and by, the community.
Once we reach £5,000 in donations we will be applying for charity status. We don’t want to take away from other community groups and their work, so we will raise what we need for whatever projects we plan. The more money we raise (on this scale), the more we can do at our events. For charity status, we will have open, honest and transparent policies, trustees and procedures that will prove good practice, compliance, and accountability.
We are setting up various groups on Facebook in due course to recruit people in the various ways we need help. We hope you’ll join one or more. We’ll be appealing for donations, items, sponsorship because as it stands…we don’t yet have leaflets, headed paper, branded products…the basics for fundraising!
We are literally starting with nothing but bright ideas, charity expertise and with a first event being planned. We will be going slowly, slowly as everything seems to take so much time to set up! Everything we have done so far has been done by us personally or businesses associated with us. Next week our bank account opens for donations. We’re also planning a small fundraising event.
So, thanks for joining us on this venture – over the course of the next few days we’ll be setting up groups and telling you more about our plans to provide our local deserving children with ‘Santa’s Special Christmas Party’ and helping to make this Christmas extra special!
In the meantime, if you’d like to donate, get involved or would like to sponsor us in any way, please get in touch. Thank you so much.
